France vs Netherlands predictions, betting tips and match preview

France vs Netherlands predictions for their World Cup 2018 qualifying match at the Stade de France on Thursday 31st August 2017. Les Bleus and the Flying Dutchmen are against Sweden and Bulgaria to reach the 2018 finals in Russia from Group A.

Les Bleus are expected to bounce back from defeat in their latest WC2018 qualifier against Sweden by achieving a victory that would seriously damage the Flying Dutchmen’s hopes of reaching the 2018 World Cup finals.

With 4 of the 10 rounds of matches remaining in WC 2018 Group A, the race to Russia 2018 is surprisingly tight and neither of these European heavyweights sits top of the table at this stage.

The Flying Dutchmen are 3 points back and Bulgaria still have a glimmer of hope, being a further 1 point behind them.

All of the top 4 play another member of that quartet on Thursday, the other match taking place in Sofia, so this will be a highly influential match-day and another follows for the Dutch on Sunday when they host Bulgaria.

The bookmakers still believe France will end up top of the group table but that it’s looking bleak for the Dutch to even finish second and go into the play-offs, and defeat just outside Paris could go a long way to killing off their chances.

It’s been a bad few years for the Flying Dutchmen since they were an excellent 3rd at the last World Cup under manager Louis van Gaal, whose immediate successors Guus Hiddink and Danny Blind struggled badly to continue the success of 2014.

Despite their surprising loss in Sweden, France still looks to be as strong as any international team in Europe and they are fancied to notch up a win that would send these nations’ respective World Cup 2018 qualification hopes heading in vastly different directions.
