Scotland vs. Slovakia: WC Qualification Europe Preview
Scotland are very much in the qualifying race for the World Cup next year, but they have to win this match to have any realistic chance of coming 2nd in their group.
Scotland have played their best football in their most recent qualifying matches, but they were a bit unfortunate against England, when they conceded a very late goal. When it happened I had the feeling it will be costly for the Scots, but here they are still in with a chance.
Armstrong and Brown from Celtic are ruled out of this match along with Ritchie.
"We have very good cover in the midfield section" - Scotland manager Strachan.
Slovakia have to manage without their suspended defender Skriniar. Skriniar is their best defender these days.
A year ago Slovakia defeated Scotland 3-0. They have lost to England twice and they also lost their away match at Slovenia 0-1.
They took the lead in their last qualifying match, at Wembley vs England, but they lost the match 1-2. Hamsik was only fit to start on the bench, but he played the last 15 minutes. Hamsik scored for Napoli at the weekend and their captain will play from the start in this decisive fixture.
It is quite possible that there are some better individuals in the Slovakian side, but in this match, it will be about working hard and giving your best and we cannot think of a better motivator in a single match than the Scottish coach Strachan.
